THE HOBBIT:
THEDESOLATION
OF SMAUG (3D)
The race is back on to get to the Dwarven gold, who's in?
December 13th
The second of our films based on books this month, The Desolation of Smaug is the enticing second
part of the LOTR prequel trilogy. As such it is set for an even more impossibly terror filled adventure,
with Bilbo and his friends making their way through the Merkwood and into the town of Dale. This
part of the book is dark and almost demoralising in its despair, but hang in there, viewers, the light
at the end of the forest is brighter in the film version.
Alongside Peter Jackson are recurring writers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, as well as intended
director and King of darkness Guillermo del Toro. The magnificently picked cast return as a team of
Dwarves to take back their gold in style. No surprises in the score, either, as Howard Shore is an old
hand now at providing scintillating accompaniment for Hobbits on their various journeys.
