26 DRUM & BASS / DUBSTEP guestlist.net Artist of the month Om Unit Issue 58 / 2013 Album of the month Chase and Status 'Brand New Machine Gun This guy effortlessly trancends the missing links between drum and bass, jungle and electronica. Om Unit has been ominously(pun intended) looming around the scene for a while, but now december is here he has cemented himself a place in the upper eshilons of drum and bass. Origionally he applied his production tallents to hip hop but in december 2011 he started making footwork jungle bootlegs undername of Phillip D Kick which cause a massive stir. His recent LP release on Civil Music titled 'Threads' has been welcomed by dnb heads with open arms, for its experimental take on varrying tempo's and breaks. Om Unit has changed the face of dance music forever and has created a spring board for other producers that tend to stray from the footpath of convetional dnb. TRACK of the month future perfect Following two successful albums showcasing the best of breakbeat, drum and bass and grime, Chase and Status are back with their third studio album Brand New Machine Gun, dabbling in UK garage, trap and electronic dancehall. With a mash up of genres, the pair truly are a dominant force of diverse production skills. Renowned artists Pusha T and Major Lazor, amongst a new wave of UK talent, join the lads on the collection of experimental tracks that saw a stream of sold out venues on the Brand New Machine UK Tour last month. Appealing to the masses, this album strays from their signature material, in a bid to broaden their demographic. Two years on, they're back and ready for a takeover.
