pawtucket edition | valley breeze | JANUARY 8-14, 2014 SENIOR NEWS Find out the difference between a cold and the flu at the senior center PAWTUCKET – The Leon Mathieu Senior Center, 420 Main St., will host the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy Outreach Program for a presentation on cold and flu on Friday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. Learn the differences between a cold and the flu, how to properly treat each one, effective prevention practices, what to look for in over-the-counter medications, and the newest information on the flu vaccination. There will be time for questions and answers after the slideshow presentation. Following the presentation the center will host a birthday celebration for its members who have January birthdays. St. Teresa Seniors to hold penny social PAWTUCKET – St. Teresa Seniors will hold a penny social in the St. Teresa Church Hall on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 1 p.m., followed by refreshments. Members are asked to bring new items only, no can goods or paper goods. New members, 55 or older, are welcome and may sign up at any meeting. Annual dues are $10 and meetings are held twice a month in the church hall. DEATH NOTICES Myrtle A. Bachini, 88, of Pawtucket, died Jan. 2. She was the wife of the late Benedict J. "Ben" Bachini. She leaves her daughter, Trudy M. Biliouris of Seekonk, Mass.; three grandsons, nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. Eileen P. Cadden, 91, of Maplecrest Drive, Pawtucket, died Jan. 2. She leaves her husband, James J. Cadden; her children, Michael and Stephen Cadden; and five grandchildren. Yole M. "Nonnie" Fairman, 94, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 30. She was the wife of the late Donald R. Fairman Jr. She leaves two daughters, E. Jane Fairman of Pawtucket and Lois Vincenzo of Cumberland; and five granddaughters and 13 great-grandchildren. Gail A. "Gee Are" Rondeau, 70, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 30. She was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Elizabeth F. (Thibodeau) Rondeau. She leaves seven siblings, Yvette Malloy, Linda George, Francis Rondeau, Patricia Rondeau, Karen Costa, Darlene Rondeau and Donna Marzullo; and many nieces and nephews. Loretta Irene Valentine, 95, of Scottsboro, Ala., formerly of Ridgewood Road, Pawtucket, died Dec. 30. She was the wife of the late Robert F. Valentine Sr. She leaves three sons, Robert F. Valentine Jr. of Scottsboro, John Andrew Valentine of Louisville, Ky., and D. Michael Valentine of Dennis, Mass.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Madeline M. McConnon, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 29. She was the wife of the late Michael F. McConnon. She leaves her son-in-law, Donald LeBlanc, and two grandsons, Brendan and J. Bradford LeBlanc. Robert McGee, 49, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 28. He was the son of Martha (Collins) McGee and the late James McGee. Besides his mother he leaves a brother, Daniel McGee; and three sisters, Colleen Foster, Loreen Dolan and Catherine Goulet. Angelo Squadrito, 97, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 28. He leaves his wife, Wanda (Brzozowski) Squadrito; his son Angelo Squadrito Jr.; his sisters, Grace Seone, Josephine Calo, Gloria Andrade and Lee Andrade; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Devin J. "DJ" Abbott, 15, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 27. He leaves his parents, Jennifer L. (LaDuke) Abbott and Joseph H. Abbott of Pawtucket; three siblings, Kristopher D. Shipman, Deanna G. Shipman and Donald Abbott-Roy; his grandmother, Mary Rose Abbott; and his grandfather, Richard Silvia. Norman E. Fowler, 87, of Pawtucket, died Dec. 15. He was the husband of the late Marion (Miliken) Fowler and the son of the late Ernest and Maryellen (Weavil) Fowler. He leaves his cousins, Jean McGregor, Paul O'Toole and Sally Boisclair. Mathieu Center offers January coffee hours PAWTUCKET – The Leon Mathieu Senior Center, 420 Main St., has announced its remaining January schedule of coffee hours, which are held on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m., unless otherwise noted. These events are free and open to everyone age 55 and older, unless otherwise noted.
