COMMENT the Groundsman January 2014 Contributors WELCOME TO 2014 Karen Maxwell Managing editor 3 s we enter the 2014, and the IOG celebrates it's 80th Anniversary, we embrace another year of sport, with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and of course the FIFA World Cup in Rio in June. Andy Murray will be out to defend his title at Wimbledon and our cricket team will face India - hoping to build on the whitewash just faced Down Under! As usual the winter months throw up a host of weather conditions that our profession simply deals with. There are so many examples of great groundsmanship and over the past weeks, with the constant rain and consequences of flooding it's amazing how many games in this day and age are saved rather than cancelled. A " Behind the scenes we are moving forward with exciting plans for SALTEX 2014 with further enhancements to last year's 'Ask the Expert' drop-in advice centre and staging seminars in the IOG Hub on the show floor Colin Hoskins Features editor Andy Cole STRI's head of consultancy Chris Gray IOG head of education and training " Here at the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) we welcome Jason Booth as our national manager of the Grounds and Natural Turf Improvement Programme. He has already embarked on the process of recruiting a new team of eight regional pitch advisors who will work on behalf of the IOG to provide best-practice advice and guidance to sports clubs within the sports of football, cricket and rugby league. Behind the scenes we are moving forward with exciting plans for SALTEX 2014 with further enhancements to last year's 'Ask the Expert' drop-in advice centre and staging seminars in the IOG Hub on the show floor. As we celebrate the successes of the 2013 National Conference and Industry Awards we are now focusing on 2014 and welcome the fact that BIGGA will be a partner in the awards which will mean we will include awards for golf. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities at this event please do contact Karen Maxwell at the IOG at kmaxwell@iog.org May I wish you every success in 2014 on behalf of all at the IOG.
