FROM OUR READERS 7-6, losing six of the last eight in 2013. It has led to disappointment, and as a fan, that hurts. J. Richard Jaconette, M.D. Battle Creek, Mich. You're obviously not alone, Dr. J. Changes are already underway. BOWL GAME LETDOWN Dear The Wolverine: Unfortunately, the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl ("the dud in the desert") dispelled any hope that Michigan football was becoming competitive and that further improvement was on the horizon for 2014. Can't the defense stop either the run or the pass? Can't the offense mount any semblance of a running game? Kansas State can't be as good as we made them look. I am normally not one to call for heads to roll, but to stand pat going into the 2014 schedule is to hide from reality. The brave talk about winning the Big Ten title and winning 10 games is just not realistic. Can we play with Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin? Not even close. We are also marginally behind Penn State, Nebraska and Iowa. Michigan is not "close" to turning the corner. We are "close"' to mediocrity for the foreseeable future. The Big House and the training facilities are the best in the country. The head coach and the assistant coaches are among the highest paid in the country. The tickets are premium priced, but the product on the field is not a premium product. To say that Michigan needs consistency in 2014 is a massive understatement, and to say that the program in year 135 will right itself because of our tradition is looking through rosecolored glasses. David Brandon, it is on you to start the fix! Richard H. Chamberlin Hickory Corners, Mich. We'll politely disagree on some of the hopelessness of your projections, Richard H. But it's obvious you're not the only one who recognizes some fixes are in order. MORE TEMPEST FROM TEMPE Dear The Wolverine: I am not a bandwagon fan and will always bleed maize and blue. I didn't attend Michigan, but that doesn't make me any more or less of a fan! I'll be right there with all Michigan fans next fall, optimistic and hoping for a great year, but for now I am dumbfounded in the disaster that was the 2013 season. Obviously something needs to change. After the pathetic showing against K-State, one of the players stated they stopped playing as a family. Now that's a problem! Michigan is being passed up by Sparty, no less. That's unacceptable, so whoever needs to fix this, I hope they do so, quickly. It's horrible having to listen to announcers calling Michigan irrelevant. Enough already! Laura Webb Lakeland, Fla. Sounds like a good offseason battle cry, Laura. Enough already.
