michigan football Shane Morris Earned 101.22 Rating In First Start In the 41-year history of freshman eligibility, Shane Morris became the sixth true freshman to start at quarterback for the Wolverines when he earned the nod against Kansas State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. Unlike the three previous predecessors, though, Morris would take a loss in his first game, joining Rich Hewlett (1979) as U-M's only true freshman QBs to lose; Rick Leach (1975), Chad Henne (2004), Ryan Mallett (2007) and Tate Forcier (2009) all won their debuts. Morris did not play poorly against the Wildcats — his 196 yards passing were the best tally of the six true freshmen and his 63.2 percent completion rates second only to Forcier — but his overall pass efficiency rating of 101.22 ranked fourth In his first start at Michigan, Morris went 24-of-38 among the rookie signal-callers passing for 196 yards and one interception in the behind Forcier (189.68), Mallett Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl loss to Kansas State.
