michigan recruiting troit Metro area, along with northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana — but his impact at the quarterback position should be the most important. He secured a pledge from five-star 2015 signal-caller Ricky Town, the No. 2 pro-style passer and No. 9 overall player nationally, when he was in Tuscaloosa, and could even convince the product of Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure to follow him to his new program. "I feel very fortunate to have built a strong relationship with Coach Nussmeier," Town said when Nussmeier joined the Wolverines' program. "Michigan is getting a great coach and an even better person. I'm looking forward to getting to know the new OC once [Alabama] Coach [Nick] Saban makes that decision." Since then, Alabama has hired former USC head coach Lane Kiffin to run the offense. While Kiffin has California roots, that's not necessarily a good thing for the Trojans' pursuit of Town. He chose not to consider USC when Kiffin was the head man, and that hire could sour his view of Saban's program, as well, helping other programs, such as Michigan, get in the mix. Recruiting Calendar Michigan's coaches have just a few 2014 prospects still on the table. With some planning National Signing Day decisions, the contact rules are important to consider. Dec. 16-Jan. 15 Dead Period No in-person contact between college coaches and recruits, either on campus or off campus. Phone contact rules remain the same (one call per week from school to each recruit, calls from recruits to coaches are unlimited). Jan. 16-Feb. 1 Contact Period Prospects may take official and unofficial visits to college campuses, and coaches can make in-home and in-school visits. Phone contact rules remain the same. Feb. 2 Quiet Period Off-campus recruiting is no longer permitted (coaches cannot visit prospects in home or in their high schools). However, prospects may finish any visits to campus that they are on. This is the Sunday of the final visit weekend before National Signing Day. Feb. 3-6 Dead Period No on- or off-campus contact with recruits. Phone contact is still permissible. Feb. 5 National Signing Day The first day prospects may sign with colleges (aside from early enrollees, who are already on campus). While the signing period lasts through May, the majority of prospects will make their final college decisions and sign with schools on this date.
