Foley Fiore Architecture creates an imaginative circular
tower addition for an old ranch in Swampscott.

learned over 20 years: It's better to listen
to the landscape instead of imposing
your will upon it. Since 1994, Foley Fiore
Architecture has been building its reputation with projects along the East Coast,
particularly in waterfront homes around
New England. "There is no definitive
Foley Fiore style," says David Foley, a
principal of the five-employee firm based

in Cambridge. "The style is defined by
each client and each house, and we take
our cues from the people we're working
with and the sites that we're given."
That was the mindset going into a
recent project in Swampscott. The task
at hand required crafting an addition to a
six-decade-old ranch on the waterfront,
with raw elegance right outside its doors.
