  BASKETBALL RECRUITING in his defense, all traits that have made him intriguing to Beilein and staff. The feeling is mutual, McQuaid said. "I love watching them play," he said. "I used to love watching them when Coach Beilein was at West Virginia with Kevin Pittsnogle. "He's a great coach. I like the way they get up and down the floor and their ball-screen offense." McQuaid also has some ties to Michigan. His dad played at Cen- tral Michigan before transferring to a school in Texas and has lived in the Lone Star State since. As is the case with Grandstaff, SMU is one school close to home the 6-5, 180-pounder is considering — he recently told Rivals.com play- ing for Brown would be appealing, though he still hasn't made a list. "I think SMU basketball is go- ing in a good direction and Coach Brown has really turned it around," he said. "He's gotten some really good transfers to come to SMU. "I think playing for Coach Brown would be a really good experience. He's coached at every level, and you can learn so much from a coach like that." Gonzaga has recently shown more interest, while Texas, Baylor, Alabama, Creighton, Oklahoma and others have offered. He's been to an SMU game and saw TCU play Kansas. He's still working on other visits, including a potential trip to Ann Arbor. "I'm still not sure of a schedule," he said. "I have to sit down with my parents and figure that out, but I like the process. I'm going to enjoy it, because it only comes around once." CASTING A WIDER NET Beilein and his staff have been all over the country in recent weeks to watch prospects from all differ- ent classes, but they're still paying plenty of attention to their offerees. They have several from the state of Indiana on the roster right now, and they're still recruiting others from the Hoosier State. Four-star junior shooting guard Coleman and four-star sophomore guard Eron Gordon (6-2, 170, India- napolis North Central) are among Rivals.com rates La Porte (Ind.)
