MEN'S SWIMMING PROFILE Dylan Bosch is a long way from home. The sophomore swimmer for the Wolverines — who won the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award last season, captured the conference title in the 200-yard butterfly and earned All- America honors in the 200-yard but- terfly, the 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard individual medley in 2013 — left his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, to be a part of the team. Since arriving in Ann Arbor in the summer of 2012, Bosch has not been back home. For the first three months, he admits that it was a difficult transi- tion, but the improvements he is mak- ing in the pool are worth the lengthy time away from his friends and family. "My coach back home told me, 'If you're going, you're going for at least two years, just to get used to the pro- gram and get everything out of it that you need to,'" Bosch said. "I haven't really wanted to go back. I want to stay, because it's working really well. "It was pretty tough for me in the beginning, with homesickness and adapting to a new program. All the help from the guys prepared me, and it got me ready quicker than I thought I would be. "I remember [junior] Richard Funk telling me, 'Your body is going to hurt every day for your entire freshman year, so get used to it.' And it's true. By the time Big Tens and NCAAs came, I was feeling pretty good. I had put in a few good races, and I was used to the amount of training." And now, with his first season and an entire offseason's worth of training in the rearview mirror, Bosch is ready to have a breakout campaign. He has already picked up two Big Ten Swimmer of the Week awards this season (Dec. 10 and Jan. 14) and Dylan Bosch Is Off To A Great Start In 2014 Bosch has already earned two Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors this year, plus he set the Big Ten record in the 200-yard butterfly (1:41.01).
