38 COMMERCIAL CARRIER JOURNAL | MARCH 2014 Mack debuts Granite MHD rear loader The Mack Granite Medium Heavy Duty rear loader, introduced at the 2013 Canadian Waste and Recycling Expo, offers a reduced-weight option for refuse haul- ers seeking a truck built for lighter-duty cycles such as short inner-city routes or for service in smaller towns. The Granite MHD has lighter-weight components than other refuse models, Mack says. "The MHD rear loader is a complement to the ex- isting Mack refuse product line," which also includes the Mack Granite and TerraPro Cabover and Low-En- try models, says Curtis Dorwart, Mack refuse market- ing product manager. A clean back-of-cab design accommodates a range of body options and helps make the vehicle suited for rear loader applications. Available in Class 7 4-by-2 or Class 8 6-by-4 configurations, the truck is equipped with a 345-horsepower Cummins ISL9 engine with 1,150 lb.-ft. of maximum torque. Driver comfort options include a cab mounted on airbags and shocks, and with a short bumper-to-tire distance, the MHD has additional front-end swing clearance and a wheel cut that helps it maneuver in and out of tight collection sites. Mack Trucks, MackTrucks.com At the World of Concrete expo in Las Vegas in January, this Mack Granite Axle Forward was donated to the Concrete Industry Management Auction to beneļ¬ t programs at Arizona State University, California State University-Chico, Middle Tennessee State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Texas State University.
