10 Issue 60 / 2014 FESTIVALS guestlist.net PARKLIFE WEEKENDER 2014 2014 will see new stage installations including a 20,000 capacity outdoor dance stage known as The Temple. The weekend festival has an eclectic line-up that spans dance, indie, pop, and hip hop, and is a true testament to Parklife's dedication to new and established artists. Giving a nod to Manches- ter's deep dance heritage, club legends Soul II Soul will be delivering the old school sounds that launched the group to critical acclaim at the tail end of the 80s. With a finger firmly on the pulse of modern day dance culture, Parklife's offering of electronic acts is unrivalled and features the likes of Brit nominees Disclosure who have been the biggest thing to happen to dance in recent years. Plus heavyweights such as Rudimental, Maya Jane Coles, Duke Dumont, High Contrast, Julio Bashmore, Redlight, SBTRKT, Totally Enor- mous Extinct Dinosaurs (DJ), Cyril Hahn and Seth Troxler will also be at this years Parklife Weekender. Parklife's hip hop offering has grown year-on- year and this tine around the festival is proud to welcome one of the genre's recent success sto- ries, Kendrick Lamar. Set to cause a stir in 2014 with his raw lyrical delivery is one of rap's most original artists, Danny Brown who will no doubt have Parklife roaring from the infectious energy of his live show. Pusha T performs over the week- end and Flying Lotus will appear not once but twice as he brings the elusive Captain Murphy to a Parklife stage. Crossing the Atlantic this sum- mer is one of hip hop's greats Snoop Dogg, who will make his Parklife debut on Saturday. Having sold over 30 million albums worldwide, Snoop will no doubt have festival-goers jumping with hits from his incredible back catalogue as well as tracks from his Snoop Lion alter ego. The Q Awards Best Live Act 2013 Foals will take to the Parklife main stage on Sunday the inno- vative and ambitious Oxford quintet have three stunning albums under their belt and are a rock force to be reckoned with. Returning to Parklife is one of the country's most forward thinking female pop stars, Katy B, who'll be showcasing tracks from her highly anticipated sophomore al- bum 'Little Red'. Current number one band in the UK Clean Bandit also join the bill in addition to B-Traits, Gold Panda, Jamie xx and master bass- ist Thundercat. Parklife 2014 returns to the legendary Heaton Park which has played host to some of the most iconic performances of the decade, including Oasis, the seminal Stone Roses and now one of the greatest and best value for money festivals in the UK. more at guestlist.net/festivals more at guestlist.net/festivals OUTLOOK FESTIVAL 2014 Joining the dots between musical legends right through to the next generation of up and com- ing talent, again some of the finest live acts and DJ's descend upon a 19th century fort for five days and nights of amazing music. Close to the historic city of Pula in Croatia's northern region of Istria, the now iconic Outlook sets the agenda with a world-class array of performers in a col- lection of truly spectacular locations, set in and around an abandoned fort. Choose from a dun- geon, a courtyard, a moat, a boat, the beach or the festival's main stage set on a harbour. Out- look combines a heady mix of fun in the sun and under the stars as a dedication to sound culture, which has just revealed its first wave of names. Indicative of continuing to raise their game even further each year, 2014's first headliner at Out- look is Busta Rhymes: from a golden era of hip- hop, his performance will feature his work with Flipmode, A Tribe Called Quest, and the best of his tracks from his earlier albums discography in- cluding recent hit alongside Q-Tip, 'Thank You'. Dancehall and reggae icons Barrington Levy and Horace Andy both perform live, with one of the world's greatest hip-hop producers, Gangstar's DJ Premier, also taking centre stage -as well as one of the world's most iconic reggae sound systems, Jah Shaka, with young Rasta revivalist Chronixx & Zinc Fence Redemption and Zouk Bass pioneers Buraka Som Sistema debuting at the festival. Outlook Festival returns to Croatia this September after last year's best ever event to date, a celebratory fusion of dub, reggae, hip-hop, drum and bass, garage, house and more on the dazzling Adriatic coast.
