One of the most highly re- garded offensive line prospects in the junior college ranks, He- delin was recruited accordingly before choosing Michigan State over a slew of national offers, a list that included Tennessee, USC and many others. But Hedelin never signed with the Spartans, part of the issue being concerns over his eligibility. Michigan State took a commitment from fellow JUCO offensive tackle Miguel Machado away from Purdue almost as a Plan B for Hedelin, who's facing an NCAA suspension due to time he spent playing for a club foot- ball team in Sweden after high school before coming to the U.S. and enrolling at the City College of San Francisco. "I know the coaches and every- body around them are working very hard on get- ting the suspension taken away," Hedelin said from Sweden, where he's finishing his junior college degree online. Provided he's eligible to play at Purdue at some point, the 6-foot-5, 285-pounder gives the Boilermakers the sort of immedi- ate-impact potential their coach- es so aggressively sought prior to the signing date. Darrell Hazell and his staff wanted two junior college tack- les, but came away with just Co- rey Clements after losing Macha- do on the signing date. Hedelin not only gives them a second tackle signee, but one of the best there is. Rivals.com rated him as the No. 28 junior college player na- tionally in the 2014 class, regard- less of position, eighth among offensive linemen. Mississippi, Tennessee, USC and Arkansas are among those who offered him prior to his Michigan State com- mitment.
