I was born with strength and the soc- cer helped me to get good footwork and become fast. I'm also very aggressive." Hedelin has only played football for five years, but said that in Sweden there's offsea- son training, so he's even less experienced than that, practically speaking. "I think his best football is still ahead of him," City College of San Francisco of- fensive line coach Eduardo Nuno said. "He's still learning and really hadn't been coached until he got here. I think the most reps and the more time he spends at a quality place, the better he can be. He's very explosive at the point of attack, very physical. He's bigger than you think, be- cause he's thick through the middle. But he's got room to grow in the upper body and is a very hard worker. I'm sure that between training table and getting in the weight room, he'll be even bigger." Purdue does not return any offensive tackles who have played in games to any significant extent. It'll have only four on its roster this spring be- fore Hedelin, Clements and freshman Bearooz Yacoobi arrive in the summer. Hedelin said he ex- pects to arrive in West Lafayette June 14. PURDUE HOSTS LINEBACKER Purdue hosted Columbus (Ohio) Wal- nut Ridge outside linebacker prospect Anthony McKee for an unofficial visit for the basketball game against Michigan, offering the nation- ally ranked Rivals.com three-star prospect during the trip. "Coach (Taver) Johnson was my re- cruiting coach at Arkansas, so we have this relationship already," McKee said. "Since he went there, I decided it would be a good place to visit. "I was hoping (the offer) would come and if I figured it would come sooner than later because Coach Johnson had offered me at Arkansas. I know it's a pretty good program and it would be a good (oppor- tunity) going there." McKee has also been offered early by Arkansas, West Virginia, Toledo, Pitts- burgh, Tennessee, Kentucky, Boston Col- lege, Bowling Green and Illinois. He said he expects to return to Purdue for a follow-up visit during spring practice. Purdue is expected to host another significant crop of unofficial visitors this weekend. NOTEBOOK S Signee Dakota Mathias led his Elida High School to a win in its sectional opener, scoring 14 points, with seven re- bounds, six assists and two late steals to beat St. Mary's 49-43. S Though Purdue signee Vince Ed- wards was held to just nine points on 3-of- 9 shooting and an uncharacteristic 2-of-7 at the foul line, Middletown (Ohio) High School beat Cincinnati Elder 54-47 to win its sectional title. Edwards did record 10 rebounds and seven assists. "We know every team is going to dou- ble (Edwards) so we all have to step up," teammate Khylan Johnson told the Mid- dletown Journal-News. "This feels pretty good but we think we can go all the way." S Signee JacQuil Taylor's high school career ended in Beaver Country Day's 67- 61 overtime loss to Brooks in the Massa- chusetts state prep school tournament. Taylor scored 10 points. j Tom Campbell Dakota Mathias led his Elida High School team to a sectional win over St. Mary's.
