Bolstered by Raheem Mo- stert's conference titles in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events, the men finished in fifth place, narrowly outpacing sixth- place Ohio State by two points while only 6.5 points separated Purdue from 10th-place Indiana. The fifth-place finish is five spots higher than last year's result while the 61 points scored are the most by Purdue since 2010. Mostert's time of 6.63 sec- onds in the 60-meter dash are a new Purdue record while his time in the 200-meter set a new Big Ten confer- ence championship record. Mostert is the first Boiler to win a men's individual title since 2010. Dani Bunch won her third individual conference title with her win in the weight throw, becoming the first Big Ten athlete to win three titles at the conference meet. Bunch also finished third in the shot put event, scoring 18 points to help the women to a fifth- place finish as well, four spots ahead of their 2013 results. Both Mostert and Bunch were named first-team All-Big Ten for their perfor- mances and each will be in the running for Big Ten Athlete-of-the- Year honors. BaseBall splits weekend games After inclem- ent weather forced Purdue to change its weekend plans, the Boilers played a pair of impromp- tu games in Alabama over the weekend. Purdue (1-7) got its first victory of the season with a 3-2 win over Butler (1-7) Satur- day. The Boilers dropped a 4-3 game to Samford later that day. Sean McHugh and Kyle Wood led the way offensively for the Boilers, accumulating four hits apiece in the two games as McHugh scored three times and mostert, Bunch win conference titles olympic sports athlete-of-the-week: raheem mostert Raheem Mostert staked his claim as fastest man in the Big Ten over the weekend, sweeping the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events at the confer- ence championships and setting a pair of records in the process. Mostert became Purdue's first male conference title winner since 2010 and only the second football player in program history to win a conference title in the 200-meter, joining Brandon Alford in 1998. Football All-American Rod Woodson won the 60-yard event in 1987. The junior speedster set a new program record with his 6.63-second 60-meter time; Mostert also set a new Big Ten Championship standard with his 20.73-second time in the 200-meters. He also anchored the 4-by-400 meter relay team, finishing with 20 points for Purdue. Mostert was named first-team All-Big Ten for his accomplishments and will be among the favorites for Big Ten Athlete-of-the-Year for the indoor season.
