GoldanDBlack express • volume 24, express 24 • 14 April Wilson 25 G • 5-7 • So. The hard knock Wilson took to the head against Nebraska might have left her a little hampered in Purdue's preparation for the Big Ten Tournament. Against Iowa in Indianapolis, she wasn't at the top of her game, turn- ing the ball over six times — she did have seven assists as well — twice doing so on entry passes that came after Purdue had set up plays during a prior timeout. The Boilers had won the previous six by keeping turnovers down, but not against the Hawkeyes. Courtney Moses 15 G • 5-6 • Sr. Moses tried to shoot the Boilermakers into the semifinals of the tourney, but her three-point shot was unfortunately off late in the loss to the Hawkeyes. She hit 3-of-9 triples. But Moses has been on a tear lately, scoring 24 or more in four straight games. She's been extremely active offensively, racing through screens to try to get open in the half court. But she's very effectice on the break, where her quickness allows her to get to the hoop or open on the line. Dee Dee Williams 20 F • 6-0 • Sr. Although Williams missed a couple open shots, she had a very good all- around game against the Hawkeyes, with six points, seven rebounds and a couple assists. It's the kind of production Williams is capable of turning in. Her jumper will come and go, but keeping oppo- nents at least reasonably honest in their defense is a must. Against the Hawkeyes, she missed a pair of jump- ers that could have meant a differ- ence in the end. Liza Clemons 23 F • 6-2 • Jr. Clemons proved tough for the Hawkeyes to handle inside, especially in the first half, when foul trouble kept Iowa's posts on the bench. Her 14 points were her highest output since she had the same in a game against Ohio State about a month earlier. As the season has gone on, Clemons has improved on catching in the post and immediately making a move to the basket, rather than hesitating before getting to the hoop. Camille Redmon 42 C • 6-4 • Jr. Redmon is Purdue's most improved player and she showed it again against Iowa, scoring four points with a couple rebounds and three blocks, the lat- ter the most critical; it caused the Hawkeyes difficulties on the inside. But foul trouble, which has been an issue at times during Redmon's career, again was. Her four fouls lim- ited her to only 11 minutes and kept her from being as effective as needed late in the game, when the Hawkeyes dominated the paint. Gold and Black's Women's Hoops Lineup The Starters Whitney Bays 32 F • 6-2 • Jr. Bays streak of games with exactly 10 rebounds has hit six, as she hit the mark against the Hawkeyes. She's averaging a double-double dur- ing the stretch, at 11.3 points and 10 boards. The scoring could stand to go up, and probably will next season after Bays has had a full year playing pain-free for the first time in years. But for now, Bays is a double-double player who gives the Boilermakers a huge boost from the bench. Hayden Hamby 10 G • 5-7 • So. Hamby only played late against Iowa, after it looked as though the game was out of reach. But she kept it at least a bit interest- ing, hitting a couple of long three- pointers in the final minute. Minutes aren't going to come often in the postseason, not with Moses playing nearly a full 40 minutes per game. Hamby will have to take advantage of the few chances she gets. Bridget Perry 13 F • 6-2 • Fr. Purdue was called for six charges against Iowa, one coming when Perry barreled into the lane while trying to make a pass to Bays on a fast break. It was a critical call, keeping the Boilermakers from an easy two when they really needed points to hold off Iowa. Perry has a tendency, at times, to charge too hard to the hoop, needing to pull up for a 10-footer rather than potentially be called for a charge. Torrie Thornton 4 F • 6-0 • So. Thornton played only one first-half minute against the Hawkeyes, as Purdue went with its three primary post players. Thornton's athleticism can be a plus, particularly against opponents who have quick front- court players. But Thornton needs to focus primary on defense and rebounding, and let scoring come on putbacks and other shots near the hoop. The Reserves Deep Bench Joslyn Massey 21 F • 6-0 • So. Link to purdue's 2013-14 season stats KK Houser 22 G • 5-6 • Sr. (5) On The Shelf — Kyle Charters Ashley Morrissette 1 G • 5-9 • Fr.
