Thompson visited West Lafayette again Sunday, figuring a long-awaited Boilermaker offer might be forthcoming. It did not. At least not yet. "They've proven they're still very interested and they've made it an emphasis that they want me and need me," Thomp- son said following the visit Sun- day. "I'm good with it, just taking it day by day, week by week. But I definitely think it's coming soon." When it does, Purdue will have a great chance to land the 5-foot-8 Indianapolis Brebeuf point guard who recently re- ceived a qualifying test score, breaking down what seemed to be the final hurdle he needed to clear before Purdue offered. "I'd say they're recruiting me the hardest and I like them a lot," Thompson said. "I'm ex- pecting an offer. I'm not sure when, but I'm pretty positive I'll get it. They're definitely the school talking to me the most and showing me they want me. It would be a great opportunity. Not everybody gets the oppor- tunity to play for a great coach like Coach (Matt) Painter for such a good school like Purdue. It's one of the highest levels you can play at. I definitely like them." Painter and his staff asked Thompson to return for an of- ficial visit this spring, which he will do. No date has been set yet. Thompson's high school career ended last weekend in Brebeuf 's 36-30 loss to Guerin Catholic in which the point guard played on an injured foot that had sidelined him for the regular-season finale and prior sectional games. The injury, a torn fascia, is supposed to heal fully with rest in up to six weeks. Thompson scored 15 points against Guerin. "It hurt. Honestly, if it wasn't sectionals, there's no chance I would have played," Thompson said. "If we were going to lose, I just wanted to do the best that I could and be out there for my teammates. It was a great four years. Being a senior, I just want- ed to leave it on the floor. That's pretty much the only reason I played, even though I probably shouldn't have, but I have no regrets. I got to go out with my guys." Purdue is recruiting Thomp- Recruiting Roundup p r e s e n t s r e c r u i t i n g n e w s a n d n ot e s Buy Subaru and keep Indiana driving.
