The Boilermak- ers (1-10) have strug- gled offensively this spring, failing to score more than three runs in any sin- gle game. Against the Tigers, sopho- more Jack Amara led Purdue offensively, finishing 3-for-7 in the series, scoring once. Seniors Steve Maniago and Conner Hud- nall also finished with three hits apiece, while Hudnall scored once and drove in three runs, tallying a double and home run against LSU. Purdue will attempt to snap its current four-game losing streak when it travels to Califor- nia for a four-game series at San Diego State beginning Friday. Boilers head to nationals Purdue will send a quar- tet of athletes to Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the University of New Mexico. Senior Dani Bunch will com- pete in the women's shot put and weight throw events while Chukwuebuka En- ekwechi will be com- peting in both throw- ing events as well on the men's side. After his stand- out performance at the Big Ten Championships — in which he won two titles — Raheem Mostert will run in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash- es, while Cierra Brown will com- pete in the triple jump. Walk-off home run spoils Weekend Purdue was one out away from an upset of No. 18 Georgia, but a two-run walkoff home run gave the Bulldogs a 3-2 victory to spoil the upset bid. The loss prevented the Boil- ers (8-14-1) from securing a win- ning record at the Georgia Soft- ball Classic, as Purdue finished with a 2-3 record. Purdue opened the week- end with a 4-2 win over Tennes- see Tech before dropping a 1-0 game to Kent State. The Boilers bounced back with another vic- tory over Tennessee Tech before falling 6-1 to Georgia in the first matchup between the two teams. Lily Fecho earned both wins for Purdue in the circle with two complete-game wins against Tennessee Tech. Fecho allowed only two runs in those victories, striking out 10 in each game. Fecho was poised to earn a third win on the weekend before the walk- off home run in the finale. Andie Varsho collected seven hits on the weekend for Purdue, reaching base safely in all five games. Danielle Fletch- er went 5-for-13 in Georgia, highlighted by a solo home run in the finale against the host Bulldogs. The Boilers will open spring break in Florida for six games over the weekend at the USF In- vitational. illini snap purdue Winning streak The men's tennis team opened Big Ten play with a split against a pair of top-25 teams over the weekend. Purdue (7-2 overall, 1-1 in the Big Ten) de- feated No. 24 Northwestern (10- 6, 0-1) on Friday by a slim 4-3 margin, ex- tending its winning streak to six matches before falling at No. 6 Illinois (7-4, 1-0) on Sunday. The Boilermak- ers will begin spring break next week in California at the San Diego Invitational, which begins on March 18. The women's tennis team won its first Big Ten match on Sunday, knocking off Illinois (6- 4) to even its conference record at 1-1.
