UNDER THE DOME crowded defensive backfield this sea- son, but the Irish expect Riggs' experi- ence and demonstrated athleticism to be a welcome addition to the back end of their defense. Riggs and Farley share experience in the middle that defensive coordina- tor Brian VanGorder hopes will make them solid "outside-in" tacklers in a new defensive scheme that will look toward the back seven to make more plays in 2014. Riggs said his conversations with Notre Dame coaches to this point have been about the cornerback position, but he's willing to play elsewhere if it will help him or the team.
