GoldanDBlack express • volume 24, express 25 • 22 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com M ike Neal is remaining in Green Bay, re- signing with the Packers shortly after the start of the NFL free agency period. Neal was one of several former Boil- ermakers who were active in the opening week of free agency. After a breakout 2013 season, Neal had turned himself into one of the more sought-after outside pass rushers in the NFL. But he chose to stay in Green Bay, where he had spent the first four years of his career after being a second- round draft pick in 2010. "Hi Green Bay!!! I'll enjoy your winters for two more years!!" Neal tweeted after signing a two-year contract. Last season, Neal tied for third on the Packers with five sacks, including four in the last seven games of the season. And he did so at a new position, playing outside line - backer after three injury-plagued years as a defensive lineman. Terms of Neal's contract have not been released. Others re-signed Veteran safety Bernard Pollard re- signed with Tennessee earlier this month, after becoming part of the new leader- ship of the Titans in his only season with the franchise. Pollard signed a two-year deal, af- ter he had played in 2013 on a one-year, $1.3-million contract in Tennessee. Terms of his new deal were not released. "We were pleased with the job Bernard did for us in his first sea- son with us last year," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said in a statement. "Getting this deal done helps our overall plan for this offseason. We still have work ahead of us trying to retain some of our other players, but we are glad to be able to get this one done." Quarterback Curtis Painter is staying in New York; the former Boilermaker, who threw 16 passes for the Giants last season, is expected to compete with Ryan Nassib for New York's backup job. nwaneri released Veteran offensive guard Uche Nwaneri is looking for a new team after being released by the Jaguars in a cost-cutting measure. Nwaneri, a fifth-round pick in 2007, has started 92 career games and visited Cincin- nati last week. He was due $5.9 million from Jacksonville this season. spencer lOOking Anthony Spencer might still end up back in Dallas, the only team he's played for during his seven NFL seasons. But the linebacker is looking around, too, having recently visited the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams. Spencer has twice been franchise tagged by the Cowboys but is unlikely to have that done for the third consecutive sea- son. He is coming off a season in which he played only one game due to a knee injury. Still, Dallas could re-sign Spencer for a reduced contract, as Spencer isn't expected to be at 100 percent by the start of training camp. j Neal Stays In Green Bay twin city dodge p r e s e n ts : b o i l e r m a k e r s i n t h e n f l Green Bay Packers Mike Neal will spend at least two more years in Green Bay, after re-signing with the Packers. plaYing On sUndaYs The following is a look at former Boilermakers on NFL rosters.
