Women's tennis falls to Hoosiers The women's tennis team has had no shortage of highly regarded op- ponents to open the 2014 dual meet schedule, and that was no different on Friday when the Boilers fell 5-2 at Indi- ana (12-4 overall, 1-1 Big Ten). The Hoosiers are one of 11 teams "ranked" in the top 60 that Purdue will face in its first 12 matches this spring. That stretch concludes when the Boilermakers travel to Arizona State (28) and Ari- zona (33) during spring break. The men's team will participate in the San Diego Invitational. Purdue loses series at san diego The Boilermakers continued their tough nonconference slate in base- ball, losing the first three games of their series at San Diego State. The losses — Game 4 was scheduled for late Monday night — dropped Purdue to only 1-13 on the season. The Boilers will play Butler, whom they beat 3-2 on March 1 for their only win of the season, in their home opener on Wednesday. Purdue had a chance to win the opener vs. the Aztecs, leading 5-3 af- ter six innings, but SDSU (15-4) came back. The hosts scored five runs in the bottom half of the seventh in- ning, then held off a ninth-inning Purdue rally. Reliever Mike Lutz took the loss, after allowing four runs (only two earned) on two hits in two innings. Jordan Minch had allowed four runs in six innings in the start. Purdue lost Game 2 11-2 after giving up seven runs in the fifth inning; Game 3 was an 18-3 loss in which the Boilermaker pitchers gave up nine walks and 22 hits.
