Mayor's Message 2  Idaho Falls Parks & rec Spring/Summer 2014 It's springtime in Idaho Falls which means it's time to get out and get active! Everyone benefits from shaking off the winter blahs. As members of our community strive to be active and cultivate healthy lifestyles, it is important for the adults to set an example of healthy living for our youngest residents. The staff members and volunteers in the Parks & Recreation Division are hard at work providing opportu- nities to make this active lifestyle even more accessible. Connecting our Community, a city-wide plan for bicycle and pedestrian improvements, is a great example of such efforts. Look for more community-wide conversations along those lines as plans are made for each area of the city. As usual, youth swim and golf lessons will be offered. And multiple basketball, football and soccer leagues will once again be offered for adults and children. Get the blankets and snacks ready. We have a new program for youth and families. Movies in the Parks will feature movies shown the last Friday of every month, May- September at Tautphaus, Community or Freeman Parks. Various activities will be offered before the movies to help get the wiggles out. Summers in Idaho Falls would not be complete without attending our community's treasured traditional events including: War Bonnet Rodeo, 4th of July Parade, Liberty Festival & Freedom Celebration, Saturday Farmer's Market, Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Races, Eagle Rock Art Guild's Annual Sidewalk Art Festival and Idaho Falls Chukar's baseball games A heartfelt thank you goes out to the many volunteers and staff members at the Parks & Recreation Division for offering a wide variety of fitness programs and lessons, maintaining our 52 parks, supporting community events, and expanding and improving our trails and pathways. Be healthy! Get active! Enjoy Idaho Falls!
