WOLVERINES TAKE EIGHTH PLACE AT BIG TEN WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS After a promising regular season, the Michigan wrestling team entered the 2014 Big Ten Championships with high hopes and expectations, but a tough opening day made it difficult for the Wolverines to come back. Three Wolverines were elimi- nated from the tournament on the first day of competition. Sophomore Rossi Bruno, the No. 8 seed in the 133-pound division, was knocked out after being pinned by No. 1 seed Tony Ramos from Iowa and losing in the consolations round to Northwest- ern's Dom Malone (6-5). Redshirt junior Chris Heald in the 197-pound division was bounced af- ter just two matches. But most sur- prisingly, freshman Adam Coon, the No. 1 seed in the heavyweight divi- sion, was upset twice and quickly bounced out of the tournament. After a first-round bye, Coon lost 3-1 to No. 8 seed Jon Gingrich of Penn State and followed it up with a 6-5 loss to Ohio State's Nick Tavenello in the consolation bracket. Coon finished in ninth place in the tournament.
