BASKETBALL RECRUITING some shots." Doyle did what he did best through- out the season, playing with his back to the basket and finishing with both hands. Teams shadowed him even when he popped out to 15 feet, know- ing he could knock shots down and smothering him before he could shoot. Still, he scored 49 percent of his team's points, and most of his re- bounds came on the defensive end because he was such a good finisher. He'll be ready to go when he gets to Michigan, Herting added. "More than increasing his physical skills, it's just getting that learning curve figured out," he said. "It's not am I going to be able to do this, or is this something I can't do? He just needs to be who he is and do what he can do." D.J. WILSON LEADS TEAM TO DIVISION CROWN Michigan class of 2014 signee D.J. Wilson (6-8, 205, Rivals.com's No. 135 senior nationally) shined in Sacramento (Calif.) Capital Chris- tian's 62-41 sectional win over Cen- tral Catholic to help his team three- peat as Division V champs. Wilson sat out last year's state playoffs with a back injury, but made up for it this March. "The Michigan-bound Wilson had 19 points on a variety of drives, fade- away jumpers and dunks, and he yanked down 19 rebounds to go with five blocked shots," the Sacramento Bee reported. "It feels great to be able to play this time," Wilson said. "Now we want to keep going." The Cougars, ranked No. 1 by The Bee since the preseason, were headed for the NorCal Open Division, a tour- nament specifically designed last season to lump the best teams, re- gardless of enrollment size, into one competition. Capital Christian was to be one of the smallest schools in it. "We want to play for the Open state championship," Capital Chris- tian coach Devon Jones said. "We feel strongly we can compete with Doyle, who is listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, reportedly averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds per game during his senior campaign despite receiving extra defensive attention.
