Work-life Balance Tips
Some people can work productive-
ly for years without burning out
because they have mastered the
art of fi nding a balance between
their work and their personal life.
Productivity expert Laura Stack
said they have certain character-
istics in common. Here are some
of them.
1) Being able to set a realistic to-do
list. You should be very selec-
tive about the big items on your
to-do list, says Stack. "If you
obsess with getting every single
item done every single day,
you'll only fl ame out."
2) Being "present" when at home.
At home, turn off your cell
phone "and your work brain,"
says Stack. Get a hobby, take
care of your personal business
and fi nd fun things to do during
your off-hours. Being present
and not worrying about work
after hours will help you to be
more productive when you are
back at work.
3) Avoiding micromanaging and
perfectionism. "Microman-
agers aim (their obsessions and
distrust) outward, perfection-
ists keep it inside," says Stack.
Being able to avoid sweating the
small stuff and accepting a little
imperfection is key to work-life
balance.
4) Taking care of oneself. "In our
race to get ahead, we often
sacrifi ce the time we'd normally
use to maintain our health,"
says Stark. "Are you the last
thing on your to-do list? Trust
me—it's just not worth it." She
said taking care of yourself in-
cludes getting full night's sleep,
eating properly and exercising
as well as spending quality time
with family and friends.
