"I don't want to go late second round where not everything's guar- anteed," Hammons said, "but if I could go top 20 (in the first round), something like that, that might (influence) my deci- sion a little bit more." JOHNSON NAMED TEAM MVP Outgoing senior Terone Johnson was named Purdue's MVP at the program's annual postseason banquet. The award is voted on by teammates. Johnson averaged a team-high 12 points per game this season. "Even though we didn't have the season we could have had, just coming from my teammates, naming me the Team MVP … it was a pretty good honor," said Johnson, who voted for Hammons. Fellow senior Travis Carroll was given the first-ever Tom Reiter Award, given to the individual who exemplifies the val- ue of being "a true Boilermaker." Reiter, the Purdue long- time coach and ad- ministrator, died in January. "I wasn't expect- ing anything," Car- roll said, "so getting that award — es- pecially for a high- character guy like Tom, being around our program like he was — is unbeliev- able for me." In other awards: Hammons got the Rebound and Play Hard awards; Ster- ling Carter earned the Courage Award and Mr. Hustle awards; and walk-on Jon McKeeman won the Lambert Award for boasting the team's highest GPA the last two semesters. HUMMEL GETTING A CHANCE As the Minnesota Timberwolves wind down their season without the injured Chase Budinger and Shabazz Muhammad, former Purdue star Robbie Hummel has logged significant minutes to finish off his rookie season in the NBA. In Minnesota's last seven games, the forward has averaged 26.3 minutes. Against E'Twaun Moore and Orlando April 4, Hummel scored a career-high 12 points in a loss. The next game, he played a season-high 35 minutes in a win over San Antonio. For the season, Hummel is averag- ing 12.1 minutes over the 51 games he's played in. He's averaged 3.3 points and 2.4 rebounds. j The iPad app is available at the App store. Search "Gold and Black" for an easy download.
