MICHIGAN IN THE PROS BY CHRIS BALAS A fter two, injury-plagued years in San Francisco, former Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham is back in New York with the team that drafted him in 2008. Manningham signed a one-year contract in March to rejoin the Giants — the team with which he also won a Super Bowl in 2012. Manningham appeared in only 17 games over two seasons with the 49ers, slowed by a torn ACL and PCL in his knee that ended his 2012 sea- son and his career in San Francisco. The Giants welcomed him back with open arms. "I just felt like I was right at home," Manningham told Vindy.com. "When I went back there for the interview, within the first couple of minutes we were all laughing and joking around like I never left. "I always felt comfortable with those guys — the players and the staff." The head coach, Tom Coughlin, is in the mold of his former college coach Lloyd Carr, and Manningham always had the same level of respect for the two. "Old school," he said of playing for Coughlin. "He'll give you that look, and he'll get in your face if he has to and say a couple words to you." Manningham is as close to healthy as he's been in a while, but still work- ing his way back. He caught nine passes for 85 yards in only six games MICHIGAN IN THE PROS Mario Manningham Rejoins The Giants Manningham hauled in 160 receptions for 2,315 yards (14.5 yards per catch) and 18 touchdowns for the Giants from 2008-11.
