The Blackstone Valley Spinners U-10 Americans swept a doubleheader from the R.I. Reds Super team Saturday in Johnston to move to a per- fect 10-0 in New England AAU play. The Spinners took game one, 5-2. Mike Clapprood received the mound win, pitching a complete game and striking out eight while giving up just two hits. The offense was led by Sean Gallagher, who belted a two run homer over the left center field fence. The Spinners played out- standing defense both games. The Spinners U-10 National team, competing in the Super Division, has battled to a 3-3 record this season. The team started out losing their first two games against a tough Connecticut Mustangs team. Pitching by Brendan Hill, Jaden White, Kevin Masse, and Danny Fish were the high- lights of a tough fought 6-2 first game loss. In the second game, the team battled but lost 14-6. Highlight of the game was the hitting of Charlie London, Joe Lisi, and Will Bowler. Against a tough R.I. Bombers squad, the Nationals had two very competitive games. In the first game, the Spinners dropped a tough 6-5 decision. Great defense by Cameron Bernard, Kevin Masse, and Robbie Goudreau kept the team in the game. Key hits included at two-run single by Synsere Fernandes and a game-tying hit by Will Bowler late in the game. In the second game, Brendan Hill slammed a dramatic three- run walk-off homer to give the Spinners a 5-3 win. With the team down 3-2 in the bot- tom of the sixth, key leadoff hits by Cameron Bernard and Cameron LaBrie placed the tying and winning runs on the base paths. A few pitches later, Brendan's mammoth shot over the left center fence ended the game. It was Hill's first homer. Last weekend the team trav- eled to Worcester to play the New England Storm Super Team. Key pitching by Danny Fish and Brendan Hill sealed a first game 10-7 victory. Key hitting came from Drew Halloran, Synsere Fernandes, Cameron Labrie, Charlie London, Will Bowler and Joe Lisi. In the second game, the team's offense exploded with 10 runs in the first three innings and ended up with a 10-0 victory. Hits by Charlie London, Rob Goudreau, Synsere Fernandes, Jack Bennett and Drew Halloran led the way. Strong pitching by Jaden White, along with the defense of Cameron Labrie, Joe Lisi, Will Bowler and Brendan Hill, kept the Storm off the score- board and secured the victory. 24 SportS & recreation APRIL 24-30, 2014 | vALLey bReeze | cumbeRLAnd LIncoLn edItIon CUMBERLAND – Will Corriveau's 517 paced all partic- ipants, and Blanche Almeida's 457 led the women in St. John Vianney Senior Bowling League action last week at Walnut Hill Lanes.
