Fan Favorites Via the magazine’s Facebook page, we posed the question to our online fans, “With Memorial Day approaching, what is your best money saving tip for camping?” Some of our favorite responses: Diane Leatham Fallis Stay home and spend your money in Idaho Falls that weekend. There are too many on the road and camping and your chances of being in an accident are quite high. Campgrounds are all filled up anyway. Idaho Falls needs your dollars here so go the following weekend but stay home on Memorial Day weekend for anything other than placing flowers on your loved one’s graves. Margie Gardner Chapple We always make a big Dutch oven pot of hamburger soup. Hamburger, potatoes, carrots, celery and onions, diced tomatoes and a cube of butter. And don’t forget the dinner rolls. It lasts us most of the weekend and the best thing about it is that every time you reheat it is always better than the last time. Tyler & Amanda Gravatt To save money, we choose camp sites that don’t require a fee. Oftentimes these campsites offer more hiking, swimming, fishing and other outdoor activities that established campgrounds don’t offer and are more fun! We also go with our extended family and make meal assignments so that we can save money by preparing fewer meals. Amy Hall Settlemyer When buying your camping supplies, get stuff that you can reuse over and over again. Like for instance, bring plastic cups and plates that can be washed. It is better for the environment and will save you money in the long run. Tami Hale Nielsen For Memorial Day? Best money-saving tip is to stay home. It’s always too cold and rainy to camp that weekend! Save your money for July. Kelly Kopp Vogt Bring all your own food: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. It is amazing how fast the cost of meals and snacks adds up! Facebook is a registered trademark of Facebook, Inc. IdahoFallsMagazIne.CoM 29
