25 LOOKING BACK Chapter Three "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." - Proverbs 16:9 W hen I look back on Bryant's first day on Earth and when I look back on his entire life, I can see the hand of God working in his life, my life and the lives of my family and the lives of all of the people Bryant came in contact with during his 17 years here. It was St. Augustine who said that if people had a choice of either dying or reliving their lives over again, they would most certainly choose death because of all the danger and evil they so narrowly escaped. I understand the sentiment in that statement, but I believe in my heart God has determined and that we are destined to choose life every step of the way, first in this part of our life on Earth, and then whenever God determines for us in Heaven, eternally. We don't have the wisdom, the strength, the courage, the stami- na or the required inspiration to live independent of God, though. God created us to look to Him for life. Bryant showed me that about God.
