27 THE EXTENDED STAY BEGINS Chapter Four L eaving Bryant at the hospital once I was discharged was very hard – for me and also for his big sister. I wanted to breast feed Bryant, so I would go to the hospital any and every time they would allow me to and try to feed him. It was a very trying and desperate feeling. Kristina, bless her precious heart, simply could not understand why we had to leave "our baby" at the hospital and not just bring him home to be with us. I tried to explain it to her the best I could, but that didn't real- ly work out too well. Ten days later, I was able to walk right out of that hospital with my new baby and Kristina was so excited. Kristina and Bryant grew up together very close. Yes, through the years, they fought like all siblings do, but they loved each other more than any two kids I have ever seen. Three months after bringing Bryant home, we were back in the care of the doctors with him, this time in Birmingham. I took him to the children's hospital to check on his ureter obstruction discovered at birth. They told me that the obstruction was small and not very likely to cause him any problems. Contact sports while growing up would not be best, they advised, but to have him checked him
