To mark this momentous occasion we've taken a look at the best bits of what we can expect from this year's epic instalment. Despacio prides itself on providing a "unique, im- mersive clubbing experi- ence" - a statement which intends to preserve the tradition of pure live mu- sic performances. James Murphy (formerly of LCD Soundsystem) and 2manydjs will be playing 6hr vinyl-only sets every day, with a jawdropping setup of seven 11ft towers of speakers and amps ar- ranged in a circle. Despacio has already been installed in the Round- house in Camden to great success, definitely worth checking out! Everyone has heard of techno giant Richie Haw- tin, but have you heard of his alias Plastikman, or his art installation project Ob- jekt? Closing Thursday's Sonar by day, this project was debuted at the Gug- genheim in New York ear- lier this year. Hawtin and his team created an entire audiovisual experience in- spired by the room he was asked to perform in, and this festival he brings it to Sonar with new music, vi- suals, and a special varia- tion on the obelisk that his team created for the land- mark event. DESPACIO PLASTIKMAN/OBJEKT A feature to distinguish Sonar by Day from any other festival, Despacio will be open 6hrs a day every day of the event. more at guestlist.net/festivals Sonar is a festival unlike any other.
