TRANSCENDENCE
Transcendence is the directorial debut of
renowned cinematographer Wally Pfis-
ter, and features Godfather of the Dark
Knight trilogy Christopher Nolan as an
executive producer - but the big names
don't stop with it's cast. Johnny Depp
stars as Dr. Will Caster, an artificial intel-
ligence researcher, but also boasts the
likes of Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall,
Cillian Murphy and Kate Mara. Depp's
protagonist Caster is striving to create a
machine that has different types of intel-
ligence, but faces formidable opposition
from extremists who oppose such drastic
technological change. Shot on Pfister's
preferred 35mm (The director a noted
advocate of shooting in film over digital),
Transcendence taps into the cyberpunk
movement of the 90s, reminiscent of
The Matrix rapid rise to popularity. It's re-
leased on April 25th through Warner Bros
nationwide.
