In 2013, nearly $400,000 was distributed through the Parish Rebate Program to parishes that exceeded their goals. ACA rebates may be used by the individual parish for vital programs of the parish's own choosing. Once payments exceed the parish goal, the parish receives a 50% rebate on any additional ACA income. The other 50% provided by parishes that exceed their goals is used by the archdiocese to compensate for the shortfall of those parishes that do not reach their goals. T he 2013 Archdiocese of Denver Financial Report, published in the Denver Catholic Register, reports the total income and disbursement of all archdiocesan funds. A copy of this report may be obtained by calling the Archbishop's Catholic Appeal Office at 303.715.3111. ACA COMMITMENT WEEKEND IS MAY 10-11, 2014. My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, During the time that I have served as your spiritual shepherd, I have been blessed with many spiritual- ly enriching occasions: celebrating Masses with you, performing confirmations and baptisms, ordain- ing men to the priesthood and diaconate, and attending parish groundbreakings and dedications…to name only a few of the many memorable events in which we have united in professing our faith. However, it is this special time of the year in which I ask you to unite with me, once again, in perhaps one of the most important undertakings of the year – your participation in the annual Archbishop's Catholic Appeal. It is precisely because we live in an increasingly secular culture that I felt it was appropriate to select "Go, therefore, and make disciples…" (Matthew 28:19) as this year's Appeal theme. These five words – spoken by our Lord Himself shortly before His ascension – were intended not only for His apostles, but for His countless followers in the ensuing centuries. In short, His command to make dis- ciples should not rest solely upon the shoulders of our religious and clergy. You – as a member of the Church's laity – have a unique and irreplaceable role in making disciples for our Lord. And as I stated in my Appeal brochure, you and I can make disciples either indirectly or directly. Indirectly, we can make disciples by living virtuous Christian lives that bear witness to the Gospel. But how do we make disciples directly? That's the benefit of the Appeal. Your financial sacrifice – when combined with the charity of others – will fund nearly forty archdiocesan ministries which make disci- ples directly. A portion of Appeal funds, for example, will be allocated to our seminaries for the forma- tion of our future priests; to our Office of Catholic Schools for the instruction of our youth in the tenets of our faith; to Catholic Charities for the distribution of charitable services in a spirit of Christlike compassion; and to our Respect Life Office for the ongoing conversion of the minds and hearts of citi- zens to a culture of life. In short, your Appeal donation will transform the spiritual landscape of north- ern Colorado and help make lifelong disciples for Christ. This weekend, pledge cards will be available at your parish. Please be as generous as possible when deciding on your level of commitment. Thank you for investing in the future of our faith and Church. Sincerely and gratefully yours in Christ, Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila, S.T.L. Archbishop of Denver Haney's Photography
