BY JULIE FILBY A California-based film pro- duction company, dedicated to creating films that "tell the truth," is working to raise the funds needed to make a TV film about abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Gosnell, convicted of three baby murders last year, and suspected of many more, performed thousands of abor- tions over a 30-year period in Philadelphia. In a video March 28, three members of Ann and Phelim Media: Ann McElhinney, Phelim McAleer and Magda- lena Segiega, announced their intentions for the film and described Gosnell as "Ameri- ca's biggest serial killer." "The media have basically ignored his crimes and his tri- al," McAleer said. "He ran an abortion clinic in Philadelphia where he delivered live, viable babies and murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors." Gosnell, 73, was convicted May 13, 2013 on three of four first-degree murder charges for killing babies who had been born alive. He is serving several life sentences. He faced more than 250 charges, including racketeering, conspiracy and violations of Pennsylvania's late-term abortion ban, and more than 200 counts of break- ing a state law that requires a 24-hour waiting period on abortion. Gruesome testimony at the trial included reports that Gosnell and his staff snipped the necks of more than 100 ba- bies who survived abortions. "According to expert testi- mony from a neonatologist these babies fought for their lives and suffered tremendous pain," McElhinney continued in the video. "But the main- stream media or Hollywood don't think this is a story. Gos- nell killed more people than Gary Ridgeway, John Wayne Gacey, The Zodiac Killer and Ted Bundy combined. In a 30-year killing spree, it is thought he killed thousands of babies. And that wasn't a na- tional story?" Investigations of Gosnell's clinic discovered blood- stained rooms, filthy equip- ment, aborted fetuses stored in a basement freezer in plastic food containers and bags, and severed feet of unborn babies in specimen jars. Citing censorship by media outlets, the team of journalists plans to make the film employ- ing the best screen writer, di- rector and actors to make sure "the story of Kermit Gosnell get into every home in America." "Gosnell's crimes need to be known," McElhinney said, "and the thousands of babies he murdered must not be forgotten." As of May 5, the group had raised 89 percent of their $2.1 million goal; standing at near- ly $1.8 million with 7 days left in a crowdfunding campaign. Crowdfunding is a collection of finances from backers, the "crowd," to fund an initiative. According to the website, a page of Indiegogo, if Ann and Phelim Media fail to reach their target budget, Indiegogo will return all funds pledged. Crowdfunding efforts for the Gosnell Movie end May 12. For more information, visit www.GosnellMovie.com.
