All kindergarten through eighth-grade students received the tablet computers by the JDO Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to enriching education by provid- ing technology. Many students, who come from low-income and immigrant families, are not exposed to technology at home. Math and science teacher Robert Bernardin said in a video that the iPads are opening up new worlds to the students. "As an expeditionary learning school, one of the things we es- teem above all else is this primacy of self-discovery and allowing students to take responsibility for their work and use their learning to produce something valuable… and these iPads allow us to do a lot more with that," Bernardin said. STUDENTS are shown singing the lyrics to The Star Span- gled Banner at Coors Field down- town during a baseball game May 3.
