32 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net Issue 63 / 2014 ARTIST OF THE MONTH THE PIXIES This month, the acclaimed forefathers of grunge seal their comeback with their first new album for 23 years. OUR PLAYLIST Heart's On Fire Passenger Klapp Klapp Little Dragon I Need $ / So Leave Polica Strong London Grammar Here's the Indie on our playlist this month: ALBUM OF THE MONTH THE HORRORS - LUMINOUS TRACK OF THE MONTH WILLOW - REMEDY Brightness is probably not the word you would usually use to describe The Horrors. Mainly influenced by new wave and alternative rock, the band's previous work was dark and has sometimes been easily and probably unfairly associated with 'Goth' culture. However, with this new album, The Horrors seem determined to get rid of this cliché, and the title 'Luminous' has not been chosen randomly. A few month before the release, The band themeselves talked about it as a 'fun and more danceable' album. Tracks 'I Can See' and 'So Now You Know', were a good preview and the new ones definitely have that vibe. Keeping their inner emotional and psychedelic roots, The Horrors managed to come up with a radiant album that meets our expectations.. British indie band The Horrors have finally released 'Luminous' this month. Recorded over 15 months in an East London studio, this is what we have all been waiting for. This month Belgian band Willow make a splash with their track 'Remedy'. Emulating electronic and rock vibes and incorporating highly creative low budget music videos, this indie band surfaces at a time when unconventional really is the best. Their 2012 track 'Sweater' pioneered new media experimentation, being the first to use a projection based music video. This new band are setting a new brand to indie with this month's track 'Remedy', a fresh tune with a clean cut innovative twinge on heart ache. Belgian indie band sets a new brand to music media.music media It's been a reliably turbulent past year for The Pixies. Origi- nal bassist Kim Deal quit in July; only for her replacement Kim Shattuck to be fired months later, back-dropped by the band drip-feeding their first new material for two de- cades across the Winter - and this month, The Pixies of- ficially cement their long-awaited studio comeback with the album Indie Cindy. The influential American grunge-surfer's first LP release for 23 years, Indie Cindy compiles EP's 1, 2 and 3 into a full length, twelve-song record. They're also playing feverishly anticipated live dates right across the festival circuit this summer, including an exclusive headlining date at Field Day in London and a rumoured Glasto slot – so be sure to check out this legendary band.
