7 33 Issue 63 / 2014 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net HELLO GUYS, FIRST OF ALL: HOW DOES IT FEEL TO WIN SUCH AN AWARD? It feels great, it's amazing. We got back from Europe on a 5 week tour and the next day had to go and do the awards, perform a couple tunes and pick up the actual award. It felt great you know, it felt like all the hard work have been doing has paid up. SO YOU PLAYED A VARIETY OF SHOWS - SCANDINAVIA, CENTRAL EUROPE, SPAIN... WAS THERE ANY BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE CROWDS REACTION? The Swedish audience is… They are here to watch and to experience a show, they don't go over the top, except when they drink. But they stand there and will be very respectful and watch, which is different from here. I was always willing to start talking between the tracks because that's what we're used to where we come from. Spain was fantastic, they came out and all, shouting our names and singing some of the melodies from the tunes, they looked like they were really enjoying the moment. SO IT WAS A BIT OF A CULTURE SHOCK TO BE BACK IN ENGLAND OR IS IT NICE? We went back to Stalk, it was the first one and they were all there you know? We played shows where we had to fight and fight to try to be taken seriously. But when we came back they were all there waiting and it was a different experience all together. We've been looking forward to get back here. YOUR ALBUM GOT A REALLY POPULAR RECEPTION, WHAT DO YOU THINK? Oh yeah when it hit number 12 in the charts we were over the moon, we didn't expect it to do that well but we had fingers crossed that maybe it might enter the chart. We thought that to reach the top 20 would be incredible. We were blown away, number 12 felt amazing. IS THERE ANY SONG THE FANS ARE MORE RESPONSIVE TO WHEN YOU'RE PLAYING IT? I think "Chinese Lanterns", that seems to be the one that everyone likes. WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN INFLUENCES? I think we always loved the Faces, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, it is a sort of love of that music that gets us to play together. I think it's something that happens quite naturally from the first time we got in the room together and played. It's not something that we worked on to make it happen. Yon know, Luke and Paul work together very well as guitar players and they know when to give each other space. I've played with a lot of drummers before, some of them are quite hard work to play with, some are just easier, and I find it really easy to play with Dan. There was just that chemistry, right from the start. WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR TOUR? It must have been the van breaking down and that happened on day three. We were on our way to the second show from Cologne to Hamburg and we were on quite a tight schedule anyway. Generally throughout the whole tour - we do the show, go back to the hostel, we get up, we drive to the next city in the morning for 5 hours plus you've got the stops. So normally we get there just about in time to start the sound check. So we were driving: long story short we broke down and it was a miracle how we got to the concert. We arrived so late, we just got our stuff on stage, just after the support band played. Stuff on the stage, played the gig, they were a mental mind Hamburg crowd, we had to tell them to get the fuck off the stage, you know, and then we were out. It was actually a very very good gig. We then broke down again, but we managed the second time to drive for two hours without changing gear, we had to keep it over 40 miles/hour and we did for the whole journey until we got caught with a red light and then that was it. We were a mile away from the destination. We turned up to the gig that night on the back of a recovery vehicle. Alex | guestlist.net " Best part of the tour was when the Van broke down. We turned up to the gig that night on the back of a recovery vehicle. " INTERVIEW TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT We went to hang out with Temperance Movement, voted best new band at The Classic Rock Awards, to talk about their music, the crazy tour they had in Europe and much, much more.
