Park went on to college and received a bachelor's degree in physics; after gradu- ating, he joined Outward Bound and then the Student Conservation Association, working all over the country building nature trails and training students in restoring public land. But it was his love of carpentry that brought him back to wooden boats. In 2009, Park attended a two-year pro- gram at Newport, Rhode Island's Interna- tional Yacht Restoration School where he cultivated skills in drafting, lofting, and traditional wooden boat construction and restoration. While there, he fully re- stored a Beetle Cat, a 12-foot gaff-rigged wooden sailboat designed and built by the Beetle family in 1921.
