8 – June 2, 2011 The Review-Mirror Resident hopes publicity will put a stop to 10th Concession tormentor An unknown vandal, thief and firebug aggravat- ing residents of Conces- sion 10 near Westport since last year may have finally had his identity revealed. Doug Hanna and anoth- Elliott Bernard, 4, and sister Jane Bernard, 2, and Nathan Leach-Weiers, 4, all enjoyed the equipment on display at the North Crosby Public Works garage Saturday in cel- ebration of National Public Works Week from May 15-21. Children enjoyed getting a different perspective on the various piece of equipment on display. Photo by Julie Gamble St. Edward Catholic School to mark 125th anniversary This year, beginning Sept. 1, St. Edward Catholic School in West- port will be celebrating 125 years since the first class was held in Septem- ber of 1886, in the ‘newly- erected’ school, next to St. Edward Church. “This school has such a rich history and we want to highlight how our past and present students, edu- cators, and administrators have contributed to the vision and success of Catholic Education in our community. We have a lot to celebrate”, said princi- pal Dan Lesser. “Generations of fami- lies have attended St. Edward School, and some former students have even returned to teach here. When you see other small rural schools having to close, it is quite a testa- ment to the value that our parents, parish and entire community place on our school and on Catholic Education,” said St. Edward Catholic School Council Chair, Lucia Tag- gart. “We would welcome anyone to join us in the Direct Line 539-8072 (613) 3.5% * EXT 6205 TomDjian@gmail.com FULL MLS SERVICE 3.5% * Tom Djian, CD1 Sales Representative WESTPORT ONARIO Call Me & Save Your Money * Certain Conditions Apply Ask for Seniors Discount planning of this great event, and will be looking for pictures, memorabilia or other items from St. Edward School’s history that can be shared at vari- ous times and locations throughout our communi- ty,” she said. Initial planning will begin with a meeting June 7 at 3:30 pm in the school library for anyone interest- ed. er man were tidying up a few chores at dusk two weeks ago when they heard a lengthy dose of horn blowing down the road, one of the annoying but least harmful of the activities stressing out res- idents. They managed to get the vehicle stopped and found a lone male behind the wheel. His defence was that he was just hav- ing a little fun, Hanna said. Rather than phone the OPP, who investigated the incidents last year, they assumed a lecture and the knowledge his victims would know his identity would do the trick. It did- n’t. The horn blowing con- tinued two nights later. Hanna says the incidents include break-ins, thefts, rapping on outside walls in the night and, most dis- turbing, the setting of small fires along the road FOR YOUR REAL ESTATE NEEDS... The police said they could do little without catching the person in the act or coming up with a license plate number. With little evidence to warrant any kind of result from calling police, Hanna came to The Review-Mir- ror. “I have a barn along there and I wouldn’t be too happy if one of them burnt,” he said. But Hanna is most con- cerned about neighbour Ed Tobin who is coming off heart surgery last year. “He doesn’t need this stress,” said Hanna, who said Tobin put up motion lights to inhibit the perpe- trators only to come home and find them stolen. The incidents stopped last fall but resumed in April. Hanna believes this is because snowfall would make it easy to track the individual. Hanna, who wouldn’t identify the individual to The Review-Mirror, says he hopes publicity around the event and the fact the affected individuals will find out who it is, will make it all stop.
