STEP 5 Speaker(s) STEP 6 Review & Submit M A L L O R T Y T U R N E R V O W E L VARIETY The session selection process is very competitive so having a variety of new and inter- esting speakers is essential to having an effective presentation. OPINION Whatever topic you are addressing at SXSWedu, you are encouraged to include at least one person whose opinion differs sharply from the others presenting in the session. WOMEN There are thousands of extremely qualified women in the education industry. If you are organizing a session with at least three total speakers, then at least one of these speakers should be female. ETHNICITY Different ethnic backgrounds and cultures take unique approaches to similar topics. And, unique is usually a good thing at SXSWedu. LOCATION There are scores of very qualified education experts located across the U.S. and around the world. Voices from various locations help contribute to this ongoing goal of diversity. The Five Elements Of Diversity HELPFUL TIPS  When proposing multiple speakers, remember SXSWedu values diversity in perspective, opin- ion and representation.  Keep in mind the speaker limits associated with your selected session category. For example, each panel has a limit of four speakers, includ- ing the moderator.  Moderators should be independent, neutral facilitators in the discussion and are counted as a speaker.  While a particular speaker may be proposed for multiple sessions, in the interest of providing diverse perspectives, speakers will be limited to participating in a single programmed session.
