The control box was mounted inside the engine compartment. It feeds off the power from the fuse box and directly connects to the monitor, which was mounted on the dash. The next step was to run the wires from the cab of the Expedition to the back to the tail lights. The AmeriCam system is tied into the reverse lights so the camera only turns on when the Ford is put into reverse. With the provided drill bit, next a hole is drilled for the camera into the bumper, just above the tow hitch receiver. With the first camera now in- stalled, we can easily back up to the boat trailer hitch. The second camera is mounted on the back of the boat trailer where it will be out of the way when loading the boat, yet still helpful when in use. Now, even with the 26-foot pontoon on the back the driver can clearly see what's behind him. A button inside the truck just be- low the monitor allows you to over- ride the system and turn the camera on at any time, not just when you're in reverse. The last step was to connect the wiring from the rear camera to the front of the trailer. Bierley Electronics, the manufacturer behind AmeriCam automotive cam- eras, is dedicated to making driving safer. Bierley is a leading manufacturer in the field of image sensor and display technology with corporate offices in the U.S., the UK and Asia. The privately-held company was formed in 2002 and holds multiple patents on its technology and products. FOR MORE INFORMATION Designed in Silicon Valley, Calif., all AmeriCam products are engineered to the highest standards and after completing the install we're very pleased with the results. It's common to find backup camera systems on newer trucks being built today, but this was the first time we've ever in- stalled a dual system and after testing it out it would be hard to go back to not having it. www.pdbmagazine.com PDB Pontoon & Deck Boat JULY 2014 37
