Throw in a parade, flag raisings and heartfelt patriotism, and you have a day that is hard to beat! Yet we all know this day has meaning and significance far beyond the fun. It is entirely appropriate that we pause and give thanks for our abundant and valuable circumstances – our citizenship and our freedom. We may also reflect on why we are so blessed. We owe much to the founding fathers whose bold vision prevailed. And we cannot begin to calculate our debt to those service men and women whose lives were given so we may live freely. Today we celebrate and honor this rich heritage. And Idaho Falls does know how to celebrate. Take time to enjoy all our community has to offer today—the 4th of July parade, the Liberty Festival on the Falls, Idaho Falls Chukars Baseball and the Melaleuca Freedom Celebration, which offers some of the best fireworks to be found anywhere in the country. Enjoy and be safe. Rebecca L. Noah Casper Mayor, City of Idaho Falls Ida Hardcastle is the 2014 Grand Marshall of the Idaho Falls Independence Day Parade. Hardcastle served on the Idaho Falls City Council for 20 years and acted as president for the majority of those years. She has worked tirelessly to make our fine city a better place to live, and is an exemplary model of integrity and honesty. In 2014, she received the Elected Official of the Year award by Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems for her exceptional work with Idaho Falls Power in driving down costs for power in the city. Today, we commend her and her efforts to act in the best interest of our community and wish her all the best in her future pursuits. MAYOR'S WELCOME
