ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 24, ISSUE 6 109 f steps and at least get in the top 80 or 90, they have a shot at a bowl game because their offense can put up a lot of points." Putting up points hasn't been a problem for the Hoosiers under Coach Kevin Wilson in the last two seasons. The offense will have more con- tinuity at quarterback after play- ing multiple signal-callers in years past. Nate Sudfeld is expected to take every snap under center after Tre Roberson and Cameron Coff- man transferred in the offseason. Sudfeld finished fourth in the Big Ten last season with 210.4 passing yards per game despite taking only 69 percent of Indiana's offensive snaps. "(Roberson transferring to Illi- nois State) takes away that second offensive threat that teams have to prepare for," Weaver said. "I don't think it's going to be a huge thing as far as the starting unit and how productive they are. "I think Nate Sudfeld is more than capable of being very good. Tre always had a couple guys he al- ways looked for. Nate is really good at spreading the ball around and checking down." Sudfeld loses several of his top targets in Cody Latimer, Kofi Hughes and Ted Bolser, who com- bined for 154 catches and 22 touch- downs last season. Indiana does return Shane Wynn, who finished second in the Big Ten with 11 touchdown catches last year, but no other receiver had more than 25 career receptions. The lack of experience on the pe- rimeter may lead Indiana to rely on its running game more. Tevin Coleman's 7.3 yards per carry in 2013 ranked fifth in the country for backs with at least 100 carries. "Their running backs are going to be good," Weaver said. "Tevin Coleman is one of the better run- ning backs in the Big Ten." With just six home games and road contests at Missouri, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State, the Hoo- siers schedule is far less favorable than it was in recent years. But with an established produc- tive offense, a string of solid re- cruiting classes and a new defen- sive coordinator, hopes are high for a return to postseason play for the Hoosiers. "I think there's a buzz with In- diana football, as much as Indiana football gets a buzz," Weaver said. "I think people see the improve- ment. This year they're looking for the defense to make that step, the offense to keep doing what they're doing and to get six or seven wins so that they can get to play in a bowl game." — Travis Baugh (5-7 overall, 3-5 Big Ten, 4th Leaders) Date Opponent . . . . . . . . . Bucket Bounceback Purdue has responded well after losing in Bloomington, going 9-5-2. All of those were at home, though. The teams have never met in consecutive years at IU. "Skill position-wise ... wow. Take your pick. Tre Roberson may be gone, but Nate Sudfeld will lead a fun offense. (Receiver) Shane Wynn is a dynamic guy and Tevin Coleman is one of the best backs in the Big Ten. The offensive line has finally arrived. They played young guys the past couple of years, and they're all back. Defensive- ly, they changed coordinators and if they can go from awful to at least halfway decent defensive- ly, Indiana could get to its first bowl since the 2007 season.
