ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 24, ISSUE 6 97 f terback and play-action passing. Lennon took over as defensive co- ordinator, too, and changed the ter- minology and added formations in the team's 3-4 front. Now, Lennon just needs to settle on who will run the offense and who can emerge as leaders on a defense that has nine starters back but lost its top tackler. There are two players vying for the quarterback job heading into the season, sophomore Ryan West and junior Mark Iannotti. West moved into the starting lineup last season after the starter got hurt, and he guided the Salukis to a 3-1 record in his four starts. Iannotti is a transfer from Eastern Michigan who has thrown only one career pass. Senior Malcolm Agnew, an Or- egon State transfer, should carry the load in the backfield again af- ter rushing for 888 yards in his first season with SIU last year. But Geor- gia transfer and former four-star recruit Ken Malcome could provide some punch, too. In the play-action game, it'll help the first-year QB if All-Ameri- ca tight end MyCole Pruitt can re- turn healthy after breaking his leg in a game late last season. Pruitt missed spring ball but expects to be ready for the season opener. He'll be a three-year starter and already is the program's all-time receptions (140) and yards (1,740) leader by a tight end. "He's big enough to overpower a lot of linebackers and fast enough to run away from others," said Todd Hefferman, who covers the team for The Southern Illinoisan. "He is the best diversion SIU has in the receiving corps." The defense will have to fill in for leading tackler Bryan Presume (104), but the rest of that corps re- turning is solid. Tyler Williamson had 13 tackles for loss, including four sacks; Jordan Poole had four sacks; and Carl Bivens had two sacks and 50 tackles. — Stacy Clardie Conference Control (8-4 overall, 5-3 Missouri Valley, 4th) Date Opponent . . . . . . . . .
