Encompassing crafts, drawing, painting, printmaking, pho- tography, mixed media, and sculpture in venues through- out downtown, the festival has grown to attract 3 ,000 to 5 ,000 people around the Montserrat Gallery 23 Essex St., Beverly, 978-921-4242, montserrat.edu One of four on-campus galleries, this is where director and curator Leonie Bradbury makes it possible for contempo- rary artists to share their works. A thriving artist-in- residence program allows students and visitors the opportunity to watch new work unfold in real time. The gallery hosts both solo and group exhibits and features a range of emerging and established artists. An emphasis on original works by local artists naturally begets a wide range of seascapes in different styles and media, but Walsingham delves far beyond that. Featuring paintings and sculpture works, more than 200 pieces by artists spanning the countr y are con- tinually on display. The galler y offers five major shows a year, and is an integral part of the local community, supporting a wide variety of local causes. A mix of everything from classical realist to impressionist and abstract, with a bit of whimsy thrown in, in-the-know staff can guide collectors to their next discover y. The Marble- head Festival of Arts celebrates creativity every July. READERS' CHOICE KJ_NB_NS August BONS_Play.indd 186 6/19/14 5:34 PM
