One of four on-campus
galleries, this is where
director and curator
Leonie Bradbury makes
it possible for contempo-
rary artists to share their
works. A thriving artist-in-
residence program allows
students and visitors the
opportunity to watch new
work unfold in real time.
The gallery hosts both
solo and group exhibits
and features a range of
emerging and established
artists. Whether an art
connoisseur, a novice col-
lector, or a young student,
Montserrat Gallery is a
wonderful place for spark-
ing one's imagination.
Four th of July holiday each
year. Most e vents are free of
charge, and visitors can ob-
ser ve ar tists painting en plein
air in spots around Marble-
head's Old Town. Through the
years, the festival—the largest
all-volunteer-operated arts
event in the region—has come
to include performing arts, a
kite festival, and sand sculpting,
among many other activities.

Located on a busy street cor-
ner in downtown Newburyport,
this galler y entices pedestri-
ans with a changing assort-
ment of large bold paintings in
its windows. An emphasis on
original works by local artists
naturally begets a wide range
of seascapes in different styles
and media, but Walsingham
delves far beyond that. Featuring
paintings and sculpture works,
more than 200 pieces by artists
spanning the countr y are con-
tinually on display. The galler y
offers five major shows a year,
and is an integral part of the
local community, supporting a
wide variety of local causes. A
mix of everything from classical
realist to impressionist and
abstract, with a bit of whimsy
thrown in, in-the-know staff
can guide collectors to their
next discover y.
The Marble-
head Festival of
Arts celebrates
creativity
every July.
