COMMITMENT PROFILE
Forgive Grant Newsome for not
committing in a typical fashion.
Whereas most recruits simply let the
world know their decision, or have
an elaborate hat dance on national
television, Newsome did things his
own way.
The 6-7, 285-pound offensive line-
man out of Lawrenceville (N.J.)
School posted a thank you note to
all the schools recruiting him — par-
ticularly Penn State — on his Twitter
account before ending with a pledge
to U-M.
"I would like to thank all the
coaches who have recruited me dur-
ing this process," Newsome wrote.
"I would like to give a special 'thank
you' to Coach [James] Franklin and
his staff, as well as the fans from
Penn State. You all are great people,
and I can't thank you enough for the
opportunity, and for recruiting me.
"With that said, I am incredibly
happy to announce that I have com-
mitted to play football at the Univer-
sity of Michigan."
Newsome was the starting left
tackle as a junior for a Lawrencev-
ille team that finished with a 5-3 re-
cord. After starting his Lawrenceville
education as a sophomore boarding
student, Newsome has steadily im-
proved.
