COMMITMENT PROFILE
FILM EVALUATION
Strengths: Messiah DeWeaver shows an intelligence and understanding of
the game that is well beyond his young age. He is able to distribute the ball to
his playmakers accurately and on time, allowing them to make big gains after
the catch.
He displays a nice touch on shorter throws and a high arc on downfield
passes. Both spin consistently with a tight spiral. He commands his team's of-
fense and is a clear leader of the squad despite his young age.
Areas of Improvement: DeWeaver is very slight at 6-3 and less than 200
pounds, and he will need to add weight to avoid injury. That will also help him
improve the pace on his passes, an area where he does have some room for
improvement.
He is also not much of a runner. He has the ability to scramble for short yard-
age, but is little threat to break a big one. Improving his pocket awareness is as
important as working on his speed.
Michigan Player Comparison: Matt Gutierrez arrived in Ann Arbor as a
skinny freshman in 2002, and although he never led the Michigan offense
(thanks to the emergence of Chad Henne), his skills still saw him succeed at
the 1-AA level and eventually the NFL. DeWeaver has two years to add similar
polish to his game.
