18 Issue 65 / 2014 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net INTERVIEW SCORCHER QUESTION: YOU JUST BROUGHT OUT YOUR NEW SINGLE WORK GET IT (WITH WRETCH 32, MERCSTON & ARI). IT'S QUITE BRIGHT COMPARED TO WHAT YOU'VE RELEASED BEFORE, SO CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THAT AND THE ORIGINS OF THE SINGLE. I just wanted to capture the vibe: whenever all of us are together, sometimes we're just making mu- sic in the studio or doing a free- style, it's always a good vibe: it's fun, it's energetic, and I wanted to bring that into a single, I want- ed to bring that into a record and I wanted to bring that into a video. I wanted to package that feeling, that 'us' that we give to other people and bring it into one thing. HOW COME IT'S A BIT LIGHTER THAN WHAT YOU'VE DONE BE- FORE DO YOU THINK? I think it's just a reflection of the fun that we have when we're around each other, not necessari- ly trying to be mad creative, more a case of let's just be ourselves and generally when we're around each other we have a good time so probably just a reflection of that. WHAT ELSE ARE YOU UP TO AT THE MOMENT? Just wrapped my EP, Work Get It. We're just getting ready prepar- ing the singles off of that really, and then a couple of acting bits so they're the main focuses. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SCORCHER AS A STAGE NAME? I didn't, it's just a nickname from when I was young that just stuck, it wasn't even really a choice. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BE- TWEEN SCORCHER THE CELEB- RITY AND TAYO THE REAL GUY? A It's all the same really, if I'm re- ally honest with you, because like i'm not really into being an enter- tainer, some people like enter- tainers and some people just give you their life and you just make of it what you do. I try more to bring people into my world and hope they like it, so there's not really much difference between the two. SO DOES THAT MEAN YOU'RE NOT REALLY REACHING OUT TO AN AUDIENCE WHEN YOU PRODUCE? I think that my theory is that if i be myself and someone likes it, then technically they should like Tayo Jarrett (born 28 November 1986), better known as Scorcher, is an English grime artist and actor from Enfield, North London. He is currently a member of the grime collective The Movement and is signed to Blue Colla Music. Oshi | guestlist.net
