20 1910 Born on February 22 nd in the village of Cerecinos de Campos in Castilla, into a family of rural workers; his father was a carpenter. 1922-27 Apprentice in a workshop producing images of saints for local churches in Valladolid. 1927 Obtains a bursary to study in the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Disappointed, he leaves the academy after three months, loses the bursary and begins to earn his living as a cabinetmaker. 1929 Becomes acquainted with the work of Picasso, Miró and Dalí in the exhibition 'Españoles Residentes en París,' presented in the Botanical Garden of Madrid. 1935 Brief visit to Paris. 1936-39 Marries Mercedes Guillén and moves to Barcelona. The Civil War begins; Lobo is actively engaged with the Republican cause. 1939 End of the Civil War. The Lobos flee to Paris. They meet Picasso, who helps them to obtain French papers. Lobo works with Henri Laurens, who is to become an important influence. 1945 Together with Matisse, Picasso and Léger, he participates in the exhibition 'Maîtres de l'Art Contemporain', at the Galerie Vendôme. From this date, Lobo is regularly included in the Parisian 'salons', notably the 'Salon de Mai', 'Salon de la Jeune Sculpture', and the 'Salon Grands et Jeunes d'aujourd'hui'. 1946 Galerie Drouin, Paris, 'Sculptures d'aujourd'hui' (Leo Castelli). 1948 Konsthall, Stockholm, 'L'Art Français Contemporain', first group exhibition abroad. 1953 First solo exhibition, 'Baltasar Lobo: Sculptures', Lille, Galerie Marcel Evrard. 1955 Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, 'Lobo, Esculturas y Dibujos', solo exhibition. 1957 Galerie Villand & Galanis, first solo exhibition in Paris, exhibits here regularly during the 60s. 1959 Museo de Arte Contemporanéo, Madrid, solo exhibition. 1969 Neue Galerie, Zurich. First exhibition at the Galéria Theo, Madrid. Lobo continues to exhibit regularly with this gallery in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. 1971 'Lobo: Retrospective 1940-1971', Maison de la Culture, Bourges. 1972 Galerie Kutter, Luxembourg. 1976 First exhibition at the Galerie Nathan, Zurich. Exhibits here regularly from this date. 1980 Inauguration of his 1947 monumental bronze sculpture 'Mother and Child' in Fällanden Square, Zurich. 1984 Awarded the 'Premio Nacional Español de Artes Plásticas'. In Cerecinos de Campos. The avenue on which he was born is renamed 'Baltasar Lobo'. 1988 'Lobo' Galerie Daniel Malingue, Paris 1992 Neue Galerie der Stadt, Linz. Touring exhibition: Osaka, Umeda Museum; Tokyo, Ogawa museum; Nagoya Asegawa Art Museum. 1993 Baltasar Lobo dies in September, aged 83. 1998 The Museo Baltasar Lobo opens to the public in Zamora, Castilla. 1999 'Baltasar Lobo: Retrospective' Galéria Freitas, Caracas. 2002 Galería Artur Ramón Art, Barcelona.
